When I moved to South Florida, I was determined to find a few good food places that reminded me of home ... the islands ... essentially a taste of the Caribbean.
Here's what I found (so far):
1. Tropics Restaurant - Hollywood, FL
Love almost everything on the menu!
It is Guyanese-Chinese Style food.
My favorite dish: Chicken Fried Rice - One order good for two!
And, in my opinion, everything tastes better, with a little bit of their pepper (sauce)!
2. Sybil's Bakery & Roti Cafe - Lauderhill, FL
Another Guyanese food stop.
Not only can you get good Roti and Curry here, you can also get fresh baked bread, pastries and patties!
3. Joy's Roti Delight - Lauderhill, FL
Good Trinidadian Eats here.
Besides the Roti, I never leave without getting Doubles - which is a Caribbean fried dough and chickpea sandwich!
4. Hibiscus Restaurant & Sports Bar - Plantation, FL
The food and atmosphere is great here!
Open late for enterainment.
The Chinese-Caribbean-Indian dishes are tasty.
I enjoy their Fried Banga Mary Fish and Fried Shark!
5. Chef Creole - Miami, FL
Creole Cuisine with Bahamian Blends here!
What I enjoy: Crab Creole; Lobster & Conch; Stew Chicken!
6. Bahamian Reef Seafood Restaurant - Sunrise, FL
Nice mom and pop restaurant!
The Chef even comes to greet you from time to time to make sure you are enjoying your dish!
Love the Snapper & Conch here!
7. Original Junie's Restaurant - Miami, FL
Authentic Jamaican Food!
Must try: Jerk Chicken, Fried Chicken, Oxtail - all of which can be served up with Rice & Peas and your choice of other sides!
So good, food goes fast!
8. Versailles - Miami, FL
Get classic Cuban Cuisine & Culture for breakfast, lunch or dinner!
I enjoy their Stuffed Green Plaintains, Versailles Especial Sandwich, Paella Versailles!
They have weekly specials, and, of course, Cafe Con Leche and Cuban Expresso!
That's all I've got for now ... feel free to send me suggestions!
